The Old Cannon Brewery on Cannon Street in Bury is delighted to announce that they are to brew a special edition real ale to mark the Town’s 800th anniversary links with the Magna Carta.

The beer will be brewed on the Old Cannon premises and will be available from 19th October, to co-incide with the start of the Magna Carta ‘Our Liberty’ Light and Sound Trail happening across the town.

Landlady Hannah Clark is hoping that those embarking on the trail will stop off en route and enjoy a taste of the beer which they are making as part of the celebrations.  “As we are an independent brewery we can brew as and when we choose, so we always like to mark special occasions with a one-off brew for the people of Suffolk to enjoy.

“We brewed this beer for the first time earlier in the year to mark the start of the celebrations and it went down a treat. It is a low hopped ‘reddish’ colour, in style with the beer they used to drink back in the 11th century.”

Magna Carta ale will retail at £3.25 pint in the pub, whilst special edition bottles are also being produced for guests to buy which will retail at £3.95 bottle.

Starting at The Apex on 19th October, the Light and Sound Trail is an exciting free event the public which takes place over two sessions of three early evenings in October. It aims to draw together strands from the past and the present to really show how the Magna Carta has been and still is part of Bury St Edmunds’ heritage.
