One of the nicest stays I\'ve had -
Great room, great hosts, fantastic evening meals and breakfast in a converted brewery. Terrific hospitality and a great range of their own real ales in a cosy popular environment with only a few minutes walk to the centre with all the facilities it has to offer. Room had great shower, very comfortable bed and absolutely spotless. Can't recommend it enough. Will definitely be my go to hotel when I'm staying in Bury. Thanks

First time in the locality and always a bit of a lottery as to whether what you see on the internet is delivered.Delighted to say it was.Curry week meant curries - both delightful. The beer necessitated a "taster triple".A very nice touch and much appreciated.Room delightful and breakfast plentiful. We will probably require to be in the area several times over the next year and the only thing that will prevent us coming back is if they are fully booked.Must mention the staff - all very friendly and so helpful.

Old Cannon Visit -
Hotel was lovely. Staff excellent. We had dinner there in the evening. There is a choice of 2 size meals on most of the food on the menu. We chose 2 starters as we were spoilt for choice. Very nice. Plenty to eat. Breakfast was excellent too. Very friendly lady served us in the morning. Bedroom was fine but sadly very disappointed in the bathroom. Mouldy shower, cracked sink and wobbly toilet. No hooks to hang anything and really needed a longer shelf on the wall for toilet bags. Expected better for the price paid

Each January we look for a restaurant with rooms to meet, eat and relax. The Old cannon was perfect for us;we enjoyed the beers at lunchtime, some shopping or snoozing in the afternoon and a lovely meal in the evening. The location of the rooms (not above the bar) was very convenient.Well appointed, and with Sky for the footie. We like to try somewhere new each year, but we may well return.

Post Christmas stay -
We enjoyed our stay very much. The old cannon iswell positioned for the lovely town of Bury-st -Edmunds-and the abbey and gardens- and serves good food in a pleasant atmosphere. We can recommend the sausages and mash and fish and chips. Cooked breakfast was also very good, portions of food are great! The staff are welcoming and there is a good selection of real ales. Our room was a bit too small so would probably book the twin room next time not the 'cosy room'. The room was clean and comfortable though. One thing would improve would be more teabags and milk to be changed for fresh as ours was left for two days. Overall it was a lovely stay and we look forward to drinking our beers we brought back home from the brewery!

Firstly, I am not "Mr".I am afraid the negatives vastly outweighed the positives on my stay. For the price paid, the room was very substandard, as was the food. The shower room was mouldy and smelly, the bed hard, pillows thin, the green safety light over the door is far too big and bright for the small room and I had to cover my eyes all night to block it out, outside was noisy with a loud humming all night. My evening meal was also disappointing, barely hot and rather stodgy, and we were given a dirty table which the waiter had to come and clean for us. Although my breakfast was hot, the sausages were burnt. The tea served at breakfast is definitely not fit to drink - horrible! However, your staff were helpful, welcoming and friendly, and the shower itself was very good (as long as you didn't look down at all the mould)

A Refreshing Change -
It's not often you get to stay in a brewery! Here is your opportunity - immediately on arrival there's a friendly feeling about the place - a bustling bar with cheerful regulars, and the beer quietly brewing in the corner. This is the first pub I've ever encountered where a box of tissues has thoughtfully been provided in the bar-loo. We could park our car in the gated yard off the road. We'd already booked dinner in a Bury restaurant so we didn't eat in the bar but the menu looked interesting.A gratis bottle of the house-beer greeted us in our modest room, which was clean - and the blinds worked. The bathroom was adequate and the shower had a proper thermostatic control. A small thermos of fresh milk was provided for our DIY morning tea - infinitely preferable to those horrid little "milk"packs/whiteners. The mattress was too hard for my liking - a latex topper would work wonders. In the morning breakfast was served from 7am til midday - very relaxed -was freshly cooked to order, and extensive. All in all a very good package close to the heart of Bury.

Stayed last year in room 1 but this year we were in room 5 which was dated in comparison. The toilet handle had to be worked to flush and we found a black hair in the bathroom. At breakfast there was a fly in my wife's coffee which put us off what was good food. We did not feel it was good value for what we paid.

We have stayed here before and enjoyed our stay. However this time we found it to be "uncomfortable ". The room was very hot and noisy. The doors in the annexe continually "banged". We had to chase up toiletries and tea etc for the room. The breakfast was served veryslowly and was not really up to standard. The eggs were very overcooked and the toast was cold and hard.

There are not many B+Bs I have stayed in that have their own Brewery but this one does.Very welcoming staff and comfortable rooms.Areas of improvement could be the bathroom needs a freshen up, the WiFi in the B+B did not work and I couldn't get the alarm clock to switch off, but that is probably my fault and not the item.Great selection of beers and Breakfast very good. The Old Canon brings back memories of when a pub was a pub! However for those of my old age you will be pleased to know that the good old days are supplemented with modern luxuries of excellent food and accommodation. The beers and ambience are a delight and the lack of piped music to drown conversation a godsend. As in all good locations there is an excellent team to look after your every need. Am I going back? Of course !

Anninversary Trip -
We chose The Old Cannon for its location which is an easy walk into the centre &close to the A14. The booking process was very easy &the atmosphere on arrival was very relaxed and friendly. We were allowed to park our car in the car park early so we could spend the day in the town before checking in...no problem. You're very much left to your own devices &can come &go as you please. Breakfast is served in the bar &freshly prepared for you, everything was delicious especially the homemade granola. But I'm afraid there is a downside which was the room itself. It was very dated and the ensuite bathroom was particularly tired &in dire need of updating.....and didn't warrant the price tag.

A gem! -
I am a fan of English beer and when I found a brewery that we could stay in I was over the moon! I was not disappointed. The beer is superb, the food excellent and the staff both friendly and helpful. We live in France and it is always lovely to have an English breakfast at times. Here it would be all the time. We only had one dinner there as the restaurant isn't open on a Sunday evening, but on the Monday we enjoyed a really good meal, mine being the fish and chips that I miss! Delicious. The room was comfortable and very quiet and the welcoming bottle of Old Cannon beer in the room is a lovely touch. It came home with us so as to remind us of the visit. I have to admit that the pull of the draught beer was stronger than the bottle.I would recommend the Old Canon to anyone and we will be returning, of that I am sure! The only fear that I have is that if I praise to much they will be fully booked the next time we want to visit???

Nice stay -
We've stayed a couple of times now and it is always a nice stay. Staff are friendly, polite and helpful. The breakfast is very good. The rooms are rather small and are basically equipped but have everything you need and are clean. The bed could be more comfortable as the mattresses are rather hard, could do with a mattress topper. Car parking is an issue as there was never enough room in the car park and the local roads are all resident permit parking. But a nice stay overall.

Smelly bathroom -
Nice quiet location, good breakfast and good beer BUT (and it is a big but) the shower was mouldy which made the bathroom smell very unpleasant. We raised the issue with the owner who eventually reduced the charge to single occupancy which was welcome but we would have preferred a clean fresh bathroom.

Great place to stay -
Overall, my stay here was great, and I want to come back with my husband so he can try some of the ales made on site.Lovely welcome by staff, they were really helpful. There was enough tea in the room (unusual for me as I drink a lot of tea!) and having the fresh milk was a welcome touch.I had dinner and breakfast in the pub, both of which were delicious. The colcannon mash was cold in the middle, but I ate it by combining with the hot gravy and sausages. The room was lovely but as a single female traveller I would have preferred not to be on the ground floor as there are people walking past the window all the time, and I couldn't leave it open overnight. I didn't sleep so well because of feeling vulnerable - especially as I had been asked in the pub which room I was staying in when ordering food - so people could hear my answer. These are just issues worth thinking about and did not detract from the friendliness of the staff nor the room itself.I would definitely stay again, but perhaps if alone, in a first floor room.

I stayed in The Old Cannon on June 15th 2016, the staff were so helpful the rooms clean and tidy. The Hotel brew their own Ale and even leave a free bottle in your room as a taster. It is close to the Town Centre if you fancy a walk. There is limited Parking but that is a small downside. The food fantastic. My biggest disappointment is the internet but I think this is the Location rather than the Hotel.Would I stay here again,Yes without doubt.

Simply Brilliant -
I booked to stay here as a birthday present for my partner as he loves micro breweries and the Ale they produce. He wasn't disappointed. The ale was great (so he tells me) I personally loved the Champagne. The staff upon arrival were so lovely. The food was amazing. We had an evening meal and breakfast. You must try the sausages, they are made with one of their ales. If we are ever back in the area we would definitely stay again.

Old Cannon Brewery -
Great location. Easy to drive to. Short walk to town centre. Room was very comfortable. Great choice for Breakfast, cooked to order. This place is right up my street as I do like to drink real ales and they brew them on site. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

Fawty Towers? -
I have stayed with you on a number of previous occasions but was disappointed with my last visit on Friday. I was locked in my room as the lock was stiff and unable to open from the inside,I had to call for assistance to get out. The toilet seat was broken and whilst the food was good the pot of tea I was served with in the morning was lukewarm at best. I like the pub atmosphere and the staff always friendly and helpful but my last visit was a disappointment,

Visiting Friends. -
We stayed for 3 nights whilst visiting friends who live in Suffolk.First visit to Bury St. Edmunds so we felt like real tourists even though we only live an hour and a half away. The staff were really friendly.Breakfast was good - cooked to order. We had lunch one day with our friends but had eaten too much at breakfast time so really did not get much enjoyment out of this. However, we decided to also eat dinner here another night and this was really lovely. My husband had steak and I had the chicken and mushroom pie, which was really delicious. Our room was not that big but adequate for our stay.Tea and coffee facilities in room - milk provided in a small flask but you need to ask for a refill if staying more than one night. Also toiletries not re-stocked but you only have to ask.A free bottle of beer in our room was a nice touch as was seeing and "smelling"the brewing process on the Monday morning. A nice place to stay with a little bit of history.

The rooms are comfortable and well equipped , the beer and snacks are a great bonus! The brewery itself is a lovely place to spend an evening we didn't have the chance to do so on this visit but next time will do. The breakfast is one of the best cooked breakfasts around, proper sausages and bacon and prepared fresh no left overs!

Fantastic Stay -
We looked for a place to stay whilst visiting friends. We normally look for something different than the commercial hotels and this was great. Staying in a love brewery was great. The room and hospitality was first class and of course the ability to sample different beers made on the premises was fun.It was the little touches that made this stand out... The bottle of beer in the room to sample was welcome to the standard tea and coffee and the breakfast from local produce was a great touch. We will definitely stay again when we visit Bury.

This is a fantastic place to stay. Friendly and welcoming. The bedroom was well equipped and comfortable. On arrival on a Sunday evening, I was offered fresh milk to make a cup of tea, which arrived in a small Thermos Flask to keep it fresh - a great and unique idea. It is an own brew pub and the beer is delicious. Unfortunately it does not provide food on a Sunday past 3pm, but breakfast was very good. The pub itself is great, again, quiet on a Sunday evening, but a very nice place to spend time. Well worth finding and I will definitely return.

Warm welcome, excellent food and drink -
I cannot praise highly enough the hospitality, food quality and atmosphere at this gem of a hotel and hostelry. Four of us - two couples - descended on the Old Cannon, on arguably Bury St. Edmund's busiest weekend, the famous Christmas fayre, and made the oversight of not booking evening meal. On this weekend, no restaurants in the area seem to take bookings because of the traffic and problems with cancellations etc and the Old Cannon were probably fully booked weeks ago. So in desperation we asked the Old Cannon staff if they could put us on a shortlist for a cancellation. Well they managed to fit us in and we had an excellent meal. Three actually, as we were fitted in for lunch, and the rooms include breakfast. Excellent quality country food, great portions, and of course great beer (Being a brewery they offer a great selection of real ales). Rooms were clean, warm and perfectly adequate for our stay.I will definitely be staying there in future

Adequate but provides good food -
We stayed for one night (room5) which was generally comfortable, but the bathroom is in need of some tlc and some extra shelving. The extractor fan is noisy, the basin is cracked but the most annoying thing was trying to get the toilet to flush, this is in need of more than tlc, but a plumber would sort in a matter of minutes. On the plus side, the food was absolutely brilliant and will be remembered for its quality and presentation, excellent staff as well.

Almost perfect -
The only reservation we had with our room was the rather tired shower. To be fair, showers get "tired"very quickly and very easily. Still, it worked fine and I was willing to overlook this once I'd had my complimentary bottle of Cannon beer (Black Pig - lovely) and packet of Mini Cheddars (which I also like;a nice touch) We chose this hotel because all the others (which we've also stayed in) were closed or full but we were pleased that the staff, service, location and of course BEERS were excellent. This is a hotel we'll be coming back to.

One Week Bury Area Tour -
The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the town centre and being towards the edge of town has easy access to the main A roads. The rooms are very smartly furnished and kept very clean, with good facilities. One attraction is the on site micro brewery and its beers which are excellent. The breakfast choice is good - though we found the quality and service variable/slow. The evening meal choice is also good but the delivered quality also variable, especially considering the prices. We found better quality and value for money in other, town centre restaurants

We stayed in Room number 4 and to be honest this room should not be sold as a double room this is a very small room for 2 people &very overpriced at 120 per night . The tiles in the shower especially the black grouting should addressed. Also the walls are paper thin and you can hear your neighbours snoring, coughing &conversations. On the plus location is super and staff very friendly

Lovely relaxing weekend -
The old cannon brewery is a lovely little b&b in the beutiful market town of Bury st Edmumds. The room was tastefully decorated and equerkly named after one of the ales brewered in the pub as are the other rooms. Staff are so friendly and helpful. Good choice of various breakfasts and taste good to. Would definetly stay here again if i visit Bury st Edmunds.

Friendly reception and ease of service everything you could want. And I did enjoy the brewing lesson as well as appreciating the bottle of beer left in our room. Breakfast was splendid and my only very small niggle was the lack of insulation between our ceiling and the floor above. I didn't know the elephants were in town.

I was only in the area for one night on business and I'm not a big fan of staying away from the family, but this hotel was perfect. Nice clean room, complimentary sample of their own beer in the room complete with bar snack, full Sky HD boxin the room (never had that before in a hotel, nice touch) and breakfast was great too! All the staff were excellent and friendly, particularly at breakfast with the continuous flow of proper filter coffee. I was tempted to set up camp there for the day if I wasn't heading home. I wasn't able to spend much time in the bar or restaurant in the evening because I was meeting a colleague but I'm definitely going to stay there again next time I'm in the area and looking forward to eating there next time.

Great beer, great grub, great rooms!! -
This place is a delight, particularly if you are a beer lover. The ales are great and the setting is fantastic, a lovely old pub with 2 huge chrome mash tuns in the bar, with lovely rooms in the old brewery building. Main menu is fine but the specials were very interesting and the quality of food really good, with excellent service from the friendly staff. Highly Recommended!

We stayed for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was really good and the food was excellent but for me the thing that makes this hotel is the staff, they are so friendly and helpful.Oh and also worth a mention, of course, is the fact that its a micro brewery, and as a huge fan of real ale, it just dosn't get any better. Will definitely be back.

My spouse and I said for two nights in the twin room. It was oly available room when booked. We were greeted by a friendly and courteous young man. The rooms are access from the brewery. Clean, comfortable and convenient to town. A bonus was the off street parking and a bottle of their beer awaiting our arrival. A bit disappointed with the thin walls and the shower needs a refurb. The continued cover up of the mold is no longer working. We did eat at the brewery and enjoyed our meals, but just average. The beers available were not the best for our liking, but I would return to try the different ales available.

Stayed for a single night as I was attending a social event in Bury. Really central and close to the station. Very attentive and quick service from staff (checked in and in my room within 5 minutes). Was late to breakfast the next morning and the manager took pity giving me a top notch cooked to order breakfast and really good coffee. All in all would recommend.Only minor quibble is lack of WiFi in some rooms - not an issue staying one night but could be for longer business stays.

Christmas stay at Old Cannon -
We stayed 2 nights at the Old Cannon over Christmas . We were told beforehand that the cost would be cheaper as breakfast would not be served. Thus the room was £70 per night. However, we felt disappointed that the milk and the tea bags were not replenished so we couldn't even make ourselves a cup of tea on the night of Christmas Day. There was no one around to ask either. We had trouble using the key to get in the side door which was a worry as it was late and cold . We spend 10 minutes trying to get in. Finally we managed it, and as we were going into our room, we heard another couple trying to get in too. My husband had to let them in. We mentioned this when settling the bill but the attitude was rude and defensive. We were told that no one else has ever had trouble with a key before. We were also told that we could have asked for more milk - but there was no one around!! £70 pounds for a room is still very steep .

Pleasant staff, Tiny room -
We stayed for one night only, if it had been longer we would have required a bigger room.Ours was tiny!, only room for one bedside table and light, no room to move around, no fridge or water in the room. Small shower room with a wobbly towel rack. Cooked breakfast with the most overcooked fried egg ever. The staff were pleasant, but we had to leave the bar after last orders as no facilities for guests. All in all adequate, but will not be staying again.

Great Athmosphere -
We had been here before for drinks and food so we decided to give the B&B a go as we were going to the Xmas market. We arrived early, parked in the car park and went in for a drink. The staff member who served us couldn't have been more welcoming, we explained that understood we were early and that we were not expecting to check in yet;he told us that it was not a problem and we could check in when we were ready. When he took us to the room I was surprised to see the paint peeling on the outside of the bathroom wall and some type of maskingtape around some tiles in the bathroom. Upon my comments he explained that their had been a flood and they were having to wait for it to dry out.I said does that mean we get a reduced rate or free wine or something? He said he could ask the manager to come and see us.When the manager arrived he said we could possibly have a different room if we wanted, I explained that it wasn't necessary so we settled on a bottle of wine.!!When I thought about it later I felt disappointed that the problem had not been pointed out initially and a reduced room rate had not been offered. We enjoyed a very good cheese board (still charged for) later with the bottle of wine. The breakfast is very good as is the look of all the food on offer. Overall though a great place with friendly helpful staff.

Room ok except the carpet needed cleaning (urgently) and the shower had some mould.Staff very pleasant but we were not pointed out the specials board in the bar for food and would have preferred the offerings on here but only saw it on the way out. Our Stay -
We found the Old Cannon Brewery accommodation very clean and warm, basically well equipped with all essentials, although not spacious or luxurious. It was very helpful to have both a kettle with tea bags and coffee,(milk was offeredto us in a flask)and an iron and ironing board, and also a hairdryer. However, we would have liked the mattresses to be rather softer than they were. One was certainly too hard to sleep on comfortably. It was a bonus to have a double quilt on each of our twin beds however. There was also a good TV in our room.As the pub does not close up until 11 o'clock there were inevitably some sudden loud noises quite late into the evening which might disturb those wishing to go to sleep earlier. However, the residential area generally was quiet and orderly. It was good to be able to walk out around the town in the evening after our meal. There is free parking at the rear of the building, although it can be a little bit tight. The staff who served us with food were all without exception helpful and pleasant. The food was acceptable but not memorable. It was interesting to try out the different beers generated by the brewery and we thought it was a nice idea to offer a pint of three separate ales in small glasses as tasters to give us a feel for what was on offer.Value for money? Everyone's assessment will be different, but we felt that if the food had been a little more varied and exciting we would have said yes. Certainly everyone worked hard to make us feel welcome and at ease.

Best hotel in Bury St Edmunds -
We stayed here a couple of years ago which was our reason for choosing it this time.I have read a number of negative reviews about this hotel but I tend to disregard them as they are usually written by peoplewho love to complain. Our room wasn't made up on our second day there, there was dust on the lampshades, a few spots of mildew in the bathroom, but I don't care because the food was excellent, the staff friendly and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. Free WiFi and Sky TV which is unheard of at the major hotel chains made up for any small imperfections. There was some noise but it is only to be expected from a busy pub and it stopped well before midnight. This will always be my first choice when staying in Bury in future and I strongly recommend it.

A warm welcome began a perfect one night stay in pretty historic Bury St Edmunds. Room had everything you needed, quiet and clean, comfortable bed, excellent shower and a complimentary bottle of Stout! Fabulous Full Suffolk breakfast set you up for the day. Locals are lucky to have you in their midst. Only draw back was lack of fresh milk for early morning tea, just couldn't face dressing to collect it from reception. A tiny drink fridge would solve that. Would thoroughly recommend The Old Cannon.

Breakfasts and noise! -
Hello. Our stay was fine with the exception of some major gripes about breakfasts. We had poached egg and smoked fish for our first breakfast. The bowl contained quite a lot of undesirable water caused - I suspect - by the poached egg being inadequately drained after being taken out of the pan.My second day breakfast was scrambled eggs and a sausage. The scrambled eggs were seriously overcooked. My wife had some impossible-to-eat porridge followed by an impossible-to-eat omelette - thin, overcooked, leathery. It was basically an egg fritter. It was my 3rd stay with you in recent years. I don't recall such breakfast problems before. One further suggestion that I offer in good faith is that the main dining area is in serious need of some acoustic treatment. The noise during a busy dinner service is unbearable. And it's not as difficult or as expensive as you might imagine and you could still keep the exposed board flooring, I believe.Best wishes,Terry Herbert.

Unfortunately the Canon did not come up to the standard of the price of the £120 the room was clean and basic although rather tired including the shower. The room request was a quiet room although this was far but the case. We had wonderful weatherand having the room windows open due to the heat we had a very noisy evening with a group of people being very noisy, although aware this is a pub and people are out to enjoy themselves I feel seating under our bedroom window was that until 23.45, unfortunately the staff did not ask them to move into the seated area provided.I was hoping to raise this when we left but the staff just wanted our payment and did not ensure are stay was a happy one.

Weekend Away -
Pleasant stay with warm welcome on arrival. Staff friendly, rooms clean and well equipped (could benefit with fans being provided as very hot).Unfortunately our stay spoilt by very noisy drinkers (shouting &swearing) in outside courtyard until almost midnight, we have reflected this in our rating which if it hadn't been for the disturbed sleep would have been a 5.

Very attractive and atmospheric place to stay, with the whole 'Micro Brewery' giving extra interest. All the staff we had contact with could not have been more helpful. Good location. Easy walk into town.Room good but this is where one star is lost. The shower area needs a refurb. (Room 2). Breakfast delicious.

My wife and I had an overnight stay at the Old Cannon and had an excellent experience. From telling them we were running late and asking for them to hold a table for dinner through to breakfast the next day everything was great. Really nice food and service and a nice surprise of a complimentary bottle of beer in the room from the brewery. Well worth a visit.

Pleasant Stay -
The Old Cannon is conveniently located within 10 minutes walk to the town centre. The car park, which can accommodate 7 to 8 cars, is very handy and secure as parking in the area is at a premium. The welcome and check in was prompt and friendly. We were shown to our room - a nice gesture. The room was well furnished and comfortable;it was bright with natural light and airy with various windows. The only comment is that the duvets were far too large and heavy for a warm and humid night. Availability of lighter duvets or sheets would be very appropriate. The en-suite bathroom was spacious, well equipped with toiletries and gels and with an excellent and spacious shower. A shower rail for the more mature guests would be appreciated. We did not dine in the hotel but the restaurant appeared popular with many patrons. The breakfast was very good with an excellent choice. This was a most comfortable and pleasant short stay. We would be happy to return to the Old Cannon and happy to recommend it.

wonderful pub hotel -
Great restaurant. Really nice wines and real ales. Nice touch to put complimentary bottle beer and nuts in the room.Wifi is not very strong.Downsides same as lots of hotels with only 1 spare power point to do the kettle, lamp, hairdryer, straighteners, and charge mobile, ipad, laptop and you've to grovel around on the floor to plug things in too.Nice room.Good shower.Plenty hot water. Remember to ask for fresh milk when you check in,as I wasnt asked if i wanted any, and didn't discover I hadn't milk till 6am next morning and then there was nobody to ask. They dont use the individual pots of milk you see. Fresh or nowt so dont get caught.

Great Find -
A friend suggested that I stayed in The Cannon as he had heard good things about it as far as food was concerned. So I booked it. I arrived at about 6pm and was greeted by a charming member of staff who was from the Bourgogne area of France. She showed me to my room which was on the ground floor across from the main building. The room was well appointed as was the bathroom which had a reasonably large walk in shower. A nice touch is that The Cannon brews its own beers and all the rooms are named after a beer, a free bottle of which is placed in the room. I stupidly didn't eat there which was a mistake. The breakfast was delicious, all local products a freshly cooked. I ended the night chatting to some very interesting and amusing locals who were very open and friendly.Overall a great stay and I will use it again.

My wife and I decided to visit the Old Cannon for two nights over the early May bank holiday. We had not visited Bury St Edmunds before and the Old Cannon looked good from its website. We both enjoyed the visit very much. The food was excellent, the beer was superb, the room was nice and comfortable and, very importantly, all the staff were charming, friendly and efficient. The locals in the bar were also friendly and welcoming and we liked Bury St Edmunds so we shall definitely be visiting the Old Cannon again, before long.

Good in most respects, especially service on arrival and at breakfast.A couple of disappointments in room - no milk for morning tea, and radiator in ensuite not working - a bit chilly first thing in morning!Mediocre and rather tepid filter coffee at breakfast marred an otherwise excellent meal. Could you not provide cafetieres with decent ground coffee on the tables? An added bonus would be saving the waitress having to constantly top up guests cups. She managed very well and pleasantly, but it wasn't easy for her.

Great stay -
I was travelling to Bury for work, and needed a place at short notice. Bury hotels seemed incredibly full, so I branched out my search to B&B's and so glad that I did. The cannon is a lovely old place. The room was clean and comfortable, sky TV, nice big shower, comfy bed. Nice touch was the complimentary bottle of home brew in the room. It's a bit of a novelty staying in a micro brewery and you get to make the most of it if you wish with the tasting pints in the bar. the little courtyard was perfect for checking emails in the sunshine at the end of the day as well. Evening menu looked lovely and breakfast was spot on. I was there with work, but still nice to have the local produce you look forward to on holiday. If ever coming to Bury again I would definitely stay here in future.

Itravelled down on business and my wife accompanied me.The hotel is centrally located for wandering around Bury and importantly it has secure parking. We took the DBB option which we were very pleased with. The dinner option was three courses, whatever you like from the menu or specials board. The food was excellent. From a business man perspective the free wifi is more miss than hit and the rooms are a bit smaller than you would probably expect. Other than those two points everything is exactly as you would want it. I would not hesitate to stop there again on business or leisure

Stayed for 3 nights over the Bank Holiday and were very comfortable in our airy Rusty Gun room, complete with complimentary beer of the same name. Lots of hot water, good bed,tea making facilities, fresh milk in a thermos pod given on arrival and refreshed daily. Had two evening suppers in the pub, delicious, oysters very very good as we're the lamb chops. Staff very helpful and welcoming at all times. Proximity to the centre of town....5 minute stroll. A good place to stay if visiting Bury St. Edmunds.

Birthday treat -
Firstly start with the positives, staff and owner very friendly so feel a little unkind writing anything negative but this is constructive criticism.Hotel in a great location and bistro area very nice and relaxing but the hotel room we stayed in needs updating. The shower in need of black grouting cleaned or replaced ASAP. Could unfortunately hear the snoring coming from the room next door, walls are stud work so needs more sound deadening.Breakfast was very tasty and staff very welcoming. With a bit of TLC this hotel could match the bistro and brewery.

Fantastic Stay! -
My sister and I chose the Old Cannon mainly because it was one of the only ones in Bury to offer a twin room.We were also attracted by the menu - and the fact that it was a micro-brewery.We were really delighted with our stay. The room was clean and spacious, the free bottle of beer was a bonus! The three course meal with bottle of wine that was included was exceptional.Every course was delicious and we were amazed that we were not restricted to a specific menu. The breakfast choices were great - we loved the pancakes, maple syrup and black bacon. Finally, all of the staff were so friendly and welcoming - our only disappointment is that we don't live near enough to visit again - soon!!

We are a group of 8 who like to choose somewhere different to go each year. The Old Brewery was a unique venue for us and the chaps were particularly delighted with the ladies choice of a brewery. Rooms were comfortable and had evrything needed even if a little small. Comfortable bed, plenty of hot water, excellent shower, SKY TV (we didn't have time to use it) and fresh milk for our morning cuppa. Also extra pillows provided without having to ask. We had a very good value mid week special including one dinner and unlike many places you could choose anything on the a la carte menu without extra charge. Super breakfast. Car parking and could walk into town.loads to see in and around Bury St Edmunds so we shall have to come again. Friendly welcome from owners and staff, many thanks.

A great stay! -
Our experience was great from start to finish. We used to live just a few doors away, but having moved away, meant that a night out in the town required us to find somewhere close to town, reasonably priced and that looked modern. The customer service was second to none - the chap who checked us in was so helpful and offered to bring ordered drinks and food to our room.Nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was nice - perhaps having local bread for the toast rather than sliced bread would have been nice, and a bit of early grey tea for some variety outside of the green tea, peppermint, and "regular"brand? This is just my suggestion though. My partner was disappointed that there was no bath, but the shower was nice and large. We think also the wifi could be better promoted - we only knew about this when we arrived, so hadn't brought our ipad, for example. We got a great deal price-wise and had a nice night's sleep - albeit a bit broken due to constant little light froma smoke alarm or similar item on the ceiling, but this is pretty common in hotels. We'd definitely recommend the old cannon to others staying in the area.
